We collaborate with Hocking Correctional Facility in a Rescue Program that has been very successful over the years. According to Anne Richardson (Rescue Facilitator at HCF), the inmates are given the responsibility of caring for and providing training to puppies and dogs while they await adoption. This program not only gives these homeless pets a "second chance", it also creates an environment where the inmate handlers can learn to accept responsibility and experience un-conditional love while providing care for their dogs. They do an outstanding job and we are most grateful.
H.C. F. and Avalon Animal Rescue are proud to announce that we began a Dog Grooming Project in 2004. This was made possible through a generous grant from the Athens Foundation. We were able to purchase professional grooming equipment as well as pay a professional groomer to come into the facility and teach the class. This project will provide the inmates with another set of job skills that can be used on the outside, while improving the quality of care for the Avalon dogs in their care. This project is open to any offender currently participating in any of the three dog programs. Our thanks go out to Nanette Rorick, The Athens Foundation, and all the H.C.F. employees who have helped for making this awesome project come to life.
